The ImagineIT project Phase 1 and Phase 2 are going well. When we returned from winter break we completed our first building community project with third graders and kindergarteners after working on it for a few weeks. Team 302 and third grade created math division problems and shared them on google slides. Team 304 and kindergartners created math love bugs with math equations that equaled 5. This semester we connect with community stakeholders using Google Hangouts. I have confirmed with several that are willing to participate to share their job and how mathematics or STEM relates to their position. I hope that this phase is a success because students need to make connections outside the school. I hope they make connections with the jobs, math, science, and STEM. This will be a great way for students connect with people from diverse backgrounds and career paths. They’ll be introduced to people that are CPS alums. I hope that will be inspired through the different connections. By the first week of March I hope all the Google Hangouts are completed and we can move forward with face to face meetings to be completed before Spring break. I was hoping to start a STEM Club and I am grateful that administration allowed the club to be one of the programs for after school. Excitement and fear came upon me because I was what am I going to do? Our first project was to complete robo wheels. I remember Candace told us about ideas on PBS website so I thought this would be a simple project to create. The students loved it and had lots of fun. My wildest dreams would be for this project to be implemented schoolwide, receive funding to continue with projects, and continue networking to offer students more experiences beyond their communities.
