One of my goals for my ImagineIT project is to build community with parents. Parental involvement can be a challenge and frustrating for a teacher. The book, The Dream-Keepers, Chapter 7 Making Dreams into Reality address the classroom teacher’s personal responsibility. One is to provide education experiences that help teachers understand the central role of culture. “Parents can also be roadblocks to their child’s education. They move a lot, they lack interest in the child’s education, they don’t help with homework or supplies, they don’t come to conferences” is a quote from a teacher expressing the frustrations of many teachers. This chapter helped me to understand that some of these things may be beyond the parent’s control and I need to look more carefully into these situations to develop multiple perspectives. I know my ImagineIT project requires a lot but I must get more creative with my time to ensure parent participation and continue with my commitment of working with my students on introducing them to the STEM ideas. It’s important that I am creative with the use of school days so students can have access to the technology despite the “roadblocks” in their lives
